| Airlocks |
| The air lock is a critical tool for making homemade wine and homebrew. These simple devices protect fermenting and aging wine from infection while allowing carbon dioxide gas to freely escape the fermentation vessel. |
Double Bubble
|
The S-Lock fits all stoppers, at times we have found that they do not always fit snuggly in the grommets of buckets. You can purchase smaller grommets for bucket lids on this site. However, we still find this airlock to be the easiest to use. |

The Brew Belt
 |
This simple device is a plastic coated wire heating element, which forms a kind of lasso which can be drawn tightly around the fermenting vessel. Simply slip the belt over the bucket or carboy and plug it in.
Although the Brew Belt is not thermostatically controlled, the temperature of the brew can be altered by adjusting the height at which the Brew Belt sits around the fermenting vessel. The lower the belt, the more heat will be supplied into the fermenting liquid. It is quite safe and can be left for several days until the fermentation process is complete. Then simply loosen off the belt, remove and it is ready for next time. |

6.5 Gallon Bucket Complete with Drilled and Grommetted Lid
 |
Fermentation vessels must be made of food grade materials. The most important characteristics of a plastic fermenter is that it has a very smooth interior. Any scratches will provide a hiding place for bacteria which will ruin your beer or wine. Plastic pails provide the necessary head space to accommodate foaming and capacity to hold large volumes of fresh fruit. A 6.5 gallon bucket can accommodate 5 gallons of beer or wine during a primary. Another reason buckets make a good primary fermentation vessel, is that the primary fermentation creates the most residue on the vessel, and they are easier to clean than carboys because you can remove the lid. Most homebrewers use plastic pails for primary fermentation and use glass for secondary fermentation. |
