Dry Yeast it is Better than You Think

If you read around, and listen to your brewing buddies you may get the idea that quality yeasts only come in the liquid yeast from companies like White Labs and Wyeast. Maybe that was true, in the past, most of the dry yeast available was, less than the best.
However, the time has come to change your mind on dry yeasts.  Fermentis is a company has put out some pretty good quality dry yeast products.

Dry Yeast is Quick, Easy, and Costs Much Less

The main advantage of using dry yeast versus liquid is its ease of use. Dry yeast is packed with nutrient reserves and there are lots of yeast cells in each packet (approximately 200 Billion +), which means you do not need to make a starter. You can just spread it on top of the beer.   Unlike liquid yeast (15 – 18 Billion) where you must break the inner seal or make a starter culture. How many times have you had to wait one or two days for your smack pack to grow to 1” before pitching?

Munton's

Munton's Standard yeast will tolerate a wide variety of temperature variations during fermentation. It is ideal for extract recipes, however Muntons recommends Premium Gold yeast for brewing with all malt, as Standard Yeast will struggle to ferment some of the more complex sugars which are more prevalent in all malt recipes.  6 grams

Nottingham

Nottingham from Danstar is a strain that was selected for its highly flocculent (precipitating) and relatively full attenuation (transforming sugar into alcohol) properties. It produces low concentrations of fruity and estery aromas and has been described as neutral for ale yeast, allowing the full natural flavor of malt to develop. Good tolerance to low fermentation temperatures, 14?C (57?F), allow this strain to brew lager-style beer. Recommended 57? to 70?F fermentation temperature range.
