Hop Shortages Occuring World Wide
Hop, Malt, and Grain Prices are up dramatically due to the climate of scarcity of hops available to the brewing industry.
Why is it all happening?
There are many reasons, but by far the biggest are that we’re coming
off a period of very low prices for farmers, some bad crop yields, and a move to more profitable
biofuel crop production. Far more than hops and malt are affected, as every trip to the
supermarket will attest. Each time you purchase an agricultural product, you’re in effect subsidizing
your gas tank.
Will prices come back down?
The sense out there is that hops may become a bit more rational
with better crops in 2008, but it looks like grain pricing will remain at high levels for the
foreseeable future.
Because of the current hop shortage. We can only accept orders of hops in conjuction with the other necessary ingredients to make batches of beer. |
