Beer Cases for Home Brewers
C&W Crate Co - Carry your beer with confidenceWho are we?
Two guys in their fifties, Phil Chaffee (the "C") and Chris Wall (the "W"), who are the founders of C&W Crate Company. We are both on LinkedIn if you want more info on our professional backgrounds.
In July 2010, Phil and Chris were discussing "What Next" in their careers. Both wanted to start their own business. They also wanted to "make" something useful and have some fun too.
Quality was also important as neither wanted to build anything that had planned obsolescence built in.
So, Chris and Phil met to discuss new possibilities. Phil has been a homebrewer for more than a dozen years. Phil had identified an equipment problem with storing homebrew bottles - the cardboard box!
They work but wear out quickly under the weight of fully loaded beer bottles. Water and cardboard do not mix. Although it is commonly known that water damages or destroys cardboard, it is not always obvious until it's too late. Beer bottle storage would be safer in plastic beer cases! An idea was hatched; what about making a new beer case for homebrewers that would be durable, long-lasting and waterproof? It also needed t ob stackable and easy to carry. A simple solution but was it worth pursuing? After months of research and development, both agreed that it was (and still is) worth pursuing. C&W Crate Company was established in late summer of 2010. We opened for business in late December 2010 but our website was not live until March 2011.
Our first product was the 24-12 beer case which holds 24, 12oz long neck bottles. It is made out of corrugated plastic (polypropylene) which is lightweight, durable, long-lasting and waterproof. The 24-12 plastic beer case is available either assembled or in partially assembled kits of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12.
Our next two products were launched together. Our second, the 12-22 plastic beer case holds 12, 22oz bottles or 12, 16oz Grolsch style bottles with the flip top lids. These cases come in partially assembled kits of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12. The third product is our Drying T's for the 12-22 case. The Drying T's are a simple devise that fits into each cell of the 12-22 case. Once installed, the Drying T's convert the 12-22 case into a drying rack which takes the place of your beer bottle tree. Once removed the plastic beer case converts back into a beer bottle storage case.
Where are we?
C&W Crate Company is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Phil and Chris are both from the mid-west and have no plans to leave. They love Michigan. C&W Crate is located at 1111 Godfrey SW, Suite 270, Mail Box #C12, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Phil and Chris think it's a cool place to be. It's an old furniture manufacturing factory (built in 1913) that is now home to entrepreneurial organizations that range from start-ups to the successfully established.
