Glass carboys are the best choice for secondary fermentation and some primary fermentation.  It has less chance of contamination than plastic because it is harder to scratch.  Scratches can harbor bacteria and cause infections. Glass is easy to sanitize and will last a life time if cared for.  Never add hot wort to a glass carboy.  The high temperature may cause the glass to expand quickly and break.  A 5 gallon carboy makes a great secondary fermentation vessel for most home brew recipes as most homebrewers brew 5 gallon batches of beer.

Great carboy, Glass is very strong and is easy to clean. Very clear to see what your brew is doing. Thanks.

This makes for a great secondary fermenter, it is fun to watch what's going on. Easy to clean just swirl with some cleaner and if that doesn't do it (90% of the time it does) then an angled carboy brush does it. I prefer carboy over plastic buckets, because of possible contamination from deep scratchs in plastic buckets and will be able to pass on to future generations.
