This product is one of those that I rated so highly because of its apparent durability. For Pine, yes soft and very easy to stain, and even after the staining, poly etc. It is well worth the $ "under a $100 category" plus the quality for such a "simple wooden piece is rather appealing. It does have a Mission Style or Arts & Crafts Period look to it.
